Legal Line is a public service of the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project and The Mississippi Bar to provide callers with free legal information. No legal representation is provided to Legal Line callers. Callers are urged to contact a private attorney for representation. If the caller is unable to afford an attorney, they are referred to the appropriate agency for assistance.
When should you call Legal Line?
- When you have questions about whether you should contact an attorney.
- When you need free legal information and do not already have an attorney.
- When you are not sure what kind of attorney to contact.
When should you NOT call Legal Line?
- To ask for legal representation or for an attorney referral.
- When you have already engaged an attorney about a matter.
- To make a complaint about an attorney.
MVLP does not provide an attorney referral service.
Resources to locate an attorney are available: On the Internet, a search for Mississippi attorneys can be made by location, area of practice, or by name at www.mslawyer.com or www.martindale.com. The Bar's website www.msbar.org provides information under "How To Choose A Lawyer" that may also be helpful. The American Bar Association has resources available on selecting a lawyer at www.abanet.org. If access to the Internet is not available, the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory is available at public libraries. Also many phone directories now list lawyers by area of practice.
